COUPLE’S WEDDING STORY:
These are the hands of your best friend, young and strong and full of love for you, that are holding yours on your wedding day as you promise to love each other today, tomorrow and forever. These are the hands that will work alongside yours as together you build your future.
And these are the hands that even when wrinkled and aged will still be reaching for yours, still giving you the same unspoken tenderness with just a touch.
This is part of a reading that we had at our wedding in September, and the words have so much sentimental meaning to us. Ethan and I met in junior high school at the tender age of 14, I never imagined that I would meet my best friend and love of my life at such a young age. We experienced all of the teenage growing pains together, and remained side by side and holding hands through it all.
14 years later on a sunny fall day, Ethan enthusiastically asked me to go for a hike with our dog Tucker. As I’m a register nurse and was preparing for a shift that night, I was hesitant to go, but Ethan persisted and I eventually agreed. As we began our hike of Signal Hill in St. John’s Newfoundland, I noticed Ethan wandering off to the edge of the hill numerous times, I had just thought he was trying to get a good view of the beautiful ocean and scenery. At one point when he had trailed off he asked me to come over with him, I had just thought innocently enough just for a picture. When he bent down on one knee and pulled out the ring, my phone and the dog leash went flying into the air! I of course said yes and finished the hike with weak knees and tears in my eyes.
We planned for a September wedding and both agreed we would love to have an outside ceremony. Our venue was small and romantic and I kept that in mind when searching for my perfect dress. I was one of those brides that just ‘knew’ when I tried on my Mikaella dress that it was the one. It was so romantic with the top to bottom lace, and the long train was everything I had envisioned. My maid of honour had said to me that she hoped when she found her future wedding dress that she loved hers as much as I loved mine.
Now that our wedding is over, I’m so happy to be able to look back on pictures for the next 70+ years, and reminisce of how classically beautiful my dress was and how much fun/love I was able to experience while wearing it.
