COUPLE’S WEDDING STORY:
We are from a small town in B.C. in the East Kootenays. Mark and I met in our grade five/six split class 21 years ago. We always remained acquaintances through the years but never more than that. When I was taking a Dental Hygiene program in Toronto, Ontario, Mark lived in Edmonton, Alberta. I started to notice him, noticing me via social media, and as I looked through his pictures realized he was also very handsome, so I took a risk and messaged him over Facebook. We hit it off instantly! We dated long distance for 13 months while I finished school having Skype dates almost every night. We would see each other every couple months and kept in constant text. It was so easy to love Mark. He is the most amazing human I know.
We decided that once I was finished school, I would move to Edmonton to be with him. We have created such a great life of adventure together. Being from the mountains, we love to go camping and be outside! July of 2016 we were camping in B.C. close to our hometown. We set up our site and went on a little nature walk. We were at a beautiful spot by an olive colored lake, so Mark set up the Go Pro to take a picture of us. As we were posing with the Go Pro set on an automatic timer, Mark asked me to be his wife, totally unexpected and totally perfect.
Early on, we decided an elopement was perfect for us. We didn’t want the fuss of a big wedding. We feel elopements are more romantic and personal. A wedding is about two people, promising forever. Getting married in the mountains in B.C. was where we wanted to be.
I wanted my family to be a part of our day, so I invited my Mom, my sisters and my girlfriend to come along for the dress shopping. I always pictured myself in lace! The first store we went to, I was trying on dresses that were very loose and flowy, they were beautiful, but I did not feel like a bride, more a bridesmaid. The second shop we went to was Novelle Bridal in Edmonton, Alberta. My girlfriend and I grabbed style 2016 at the same time. I tried the dress on and instantly I knew this was my dress. I cried when I revealed the dress to my family, definitely knew this was my dress!
Our wedding day was everything. We spent the morning taking a canoe ride on the Emerald colored lake, then relaxed on our deck through the afternoon. We shared our first look and private vows at sunset, then set off for an adventure in the woods. We finished our night off by the fire with s’mores and champagne.
Our day was captured by Nicole Ashley. I met Nicole last year while doing a boudoir shoot as an anniversary gift for Mark, we got along so well and even talked about my future elopement when I wasn’t even engaged yet, so she was obviously the perfect choice for our home engagement and also our elopement.
Nicole works closely with Janna and Steph from Behind the Blush, who I also met during the boudoir shoot. Over the last couple years we have established a fun relationship and having them along for our Mountain Elopement was very fun! Janna and Steph were with Nicole, Mark and I the entire day, doing touch ups, holding my veil, train and bouquet, helping Nicole pose us and also getting an entire crowd of tourists off a bridge to get the perfect shots! The trio are hilarious and I would recommend them to anyone!! Our day turned out unreal and it was great to have them there. They shared our wedding dinner, champagne and cake!
