 Katie & Peter

The sunny beach of Jamaica was the backdrop for Katie and Peter’s tropical wedding. Wearing Mikaella Style 1850, the bride celebrated with friends and family who had traveled from all over to honour the happy couple. Katie shares more of her special day with us:

How did you and Peter meet?
Peter and I met at work. He worked for a different branch of the same company until they transferred him to my area to manage my branch.  We soon became close friends and spent the first year or so just having fun and getting to know each other. Even though I’m not one of those brides that get to use “love at first sight” in their stories, I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way. Our romantic relationship stemmed from a solid friendship and a true understanding of each other as individuals, and today I’m lucky enough to call him both my best friend AND my husband!

How did you know your dress was “The One”?
At the risk of sounding cheesy, you really DO just know! The Mikaella 1850 was literally the first dress I tried on and it brought tears to my bridesmaid’s eyes when I walked out of the dressing room. But NO ONE buys the first wedding dress they try on, right? So, I (stupidly) ended up parading through 3-4 other bridal shops and trying countless other dresses, knowing that I’d already found the “one.” At the end of a LONG day, The White Magnolia Bridal Collection was kind enough to squeeze me in between back-to-back fitting appointments to let me put it on one more time. And that’s all she wrote! I loved every moment wearing it and, three months later, I’m STILL getting compliments about it. I wish I could wear it again!

Why did you choose Jamaica as the destination for your wedding day?
In addition to being beach and ocean lovers by nature, Peter and I knew from the start that we wouldn’t be happy spending 6-12 months meticulously planning a traditional wedding that would be over in the blink of an eye. We loved the idea that, as opposed to being pulled in a million different directions in a short period of time, destination weddings give you a whole weekend (or more!) with your closest friends and family. However, we knew traveling probably wouldn’t be convenient for most of our guests and went into it with the understanding that we’d be fortunate to have 30-35 friends and/or family members attend.

We were shocked when our RSVP count reached a mind-blowing 84 guests! It’s a really humbling experience when you get that kind of response and we’re SO lucky and blessed to have such AMAZING friends and family!  The experience as a whole was the most fun we’ve EVER had and we whole-heartedly attribute that to our guests.

What was one of your best wedding day moments?
It’s probably cliché, but my absolute favorite wedding day moment was watching Peter’s reaction as my mom walked me down the aisle. I don’t think I’d ever seen him smile so big before… and, (he’ll probably HATE that I’m publicizing this), but he even got a little emotional and teary-eyed! In all the years we’ve been together, it was the first time I’d seen that reaction out of him and it still gives me goose-bumps.
